Ben spent five years as a Weapons Engineer in the Royal Navy Submarine Service, developing a strong technical and leadership foundation in one of the most demanding environments the military has to offer. When he left the Navy, he was determined to bring that discipline, technical grounding and physical security mindset into a career in cyber security.

• Five years of submarine service gave Ben genuine transferable strengths: leadership under pressure, technical troubleshooting, a strong questioning culture and a physical security mindset built into daily life on board
• Transferable skills alone don’t get you through a cyber security hiring process. Employers wanted to see recognised, industry-standard certifications that proved his capability in a civilian technical context
• Ben needed a structured way to convert his military background into qualifications the cyber security industry would recognise on sight

Ben completed Newto Training’s Cyber Security career programme, earning Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900), CompTIA Security+, and CompTIA CySA+. Alongside the certification training, we rebuilt his CV to properly translate his Royal Navy experience, his leadership, his physical security discipline, his composure under pressure, into language that lands with cyber security hiring managers, and supported him through his job search and interview preparation.

Ex-military candidates with recognised cyber security certifications are in real demand, and Ben felt that directly. Armed with his new qualifications and a CV that finally did justice to his Navy background, he had multiple offers to weigh up, and chose to join Cyberbridge Services as Associate Technical Director.
