Background

Kaasim has a strong academic foundation in Cyber Security, having completed a First-Class degree alongside six months' experience as a Junior Security Analyst at Pontem Security. Through this, he developed solid knowledge of cyber security principles, networking, and systems analysis, with a clear interest in progressing into hands-on security operations environments.

Following his academic and early industry experience, he made the decision to further develop practical, real-world cyber skills with the long-term goal of progressing into SOC or cyber security-focused roles.

2

The Challenge

Despite strong academic and early industry experience, he needed support to:

  • Transition from academic cyber security into a live operational security environment
  • Gain hands-on exposure to real-world security operations and infrastructure monitoring
  • Apply technical knowledge in practical, scenario-based environments with confidence
  • Secure an entry-level role within cyber security operations
3

The Solution

Kaasim completed a structured cyber security training pathway alongside hands-on projects covering SIEM monitoring with Splunk, vulnerability scanning with Nessus, Azure networking and VM deployment, and network simulation using Cisco Packet Tracer.

He also completed CompTIA Security+, CySA+, and Microsoft Azure Fundamentals AZ-900, passing all exams first time and demonstrating strong consistency and technical understanding.

Following completion of his training, we then moved into the recruitment support phase, which included:

  • A full CV rebuild focused on aligning cyber security and academic experience with SOC and security operations roles
  • Structured job search guidance targeting SOC analyst and entry-level cyber security positions
  • Elevator pitch development to clearly communicate his technical background and career transition
  • Interview preparation covering technical troubleshooting and behavioural cyber security scenarios

The Results

  • On 05 March 2026, Kaasim secured a role as a Trainee Systems Hotline Engineer at Logistex.
  • He is now working in a technical environment with strong exposure to security-adjacent systems monitoring and operations, continuing to build hands-on experience as a pathway toward SOC and cyber security analyst roles.
