Our 5-day work experience programme offers aspiring IT professionals the chance to gain practical skills and real-world insight into ethical e-waste management.
Hosted by The Edinburgh Remakery—a Queen’s Award-winning environmental charity and social enterprise. You’ll work alongside experts to repair and refurbish tech, learn device troubleshooting, and understand responsible e-waste recycling.
You’ll also gain invaluable cyber security experience through an internal audit for ISO27001, assessing vulnerabilities and security protocols.
This opportunity enhances your CV, builds confidence, and provides a reference to support your future career in IT.

As part of the programme, you will gain hands-on project experience that directly reflects real-world IT environments. You’ll work on practical tasks such as troubleshooting, printer management, backup and disk partitioning, and network mapping to build a strong technical foundation.
Your networking skills will be developed through Cisco technologies, covering wireless management, VLANs, routing protocols, server management, and port security. In addition, you’ll explore Microsoft Azure by deploying Infrastructure and Platform as a Service (IaaS and PaaS), managing storage, configuring virtual networks, and working with security and IoT solutions.
To strengthen your cyber security expertise, you’ll gain exposure to SIEM technologies like Splunk for monitoring and analysis, as well as vulnerability management using Tenable, ensuring you are prepared to handle real-world IT and security challenges.
